Precious Lord (Take My Hand) (PepperHorn Down South) [PH]

Precious Lord is a cherished spiritual written by the Reverend Thomas A. Dorsey and George Nelson Allen.  Its a story of comfort and spiritual guidance: ”Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand, I’m tired, I’m weak, I’m lone, Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light, Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home”
This medium tempo swinger starts off with a Piano intro and features the Trumpet on the melody before the Vocalist takes it on.  Open Solos round it out so everyone gets a shout.

The Liquidator (Harry J All Stars) [PJ]

Fans of the Staple Singers and Stax Records will recognize note one of this one — from their big hit ‘I’ll Take You There’. This Reggae classic is attributed to the Harry J All Stars — a Trojan studio band who cut the track in 1969. The origins of the instrumental are disputed amongst Reggae royalty: some say the song was originally a base for a vocal number for Tony Scott. The great Alton Ellis claims the song borrows liberally from his hit ‘Girl I’ve Got A Date’. Regardless ‘The Liquidator’ has stood the test of time as one of Reggae’s classic singles.
