Try A Little Tenderness (Otis Redding) [HL]

This 1930s love song, written by Jimmy Cambell, Reg Connelly and Harry M. Woods has seen many treatments — from the Ray Noble original to Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. One of the most loved was the soulful hit by the great Otis Redding. The 1991 film ‘The Commitments’ gave tribute to Redding’s classic recording with their powerful take on ‘Try A Little Tenderness’.

Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince) [HL]

When you hear this song title most people immediately associate it with the 1990 cover by Sinead O’Connor. Little do they know that this song was actually written by the Pop King Prince for his side project ‘The Family’ back in 1985. The song has since become a staple of Prince’s live stage shows and it is this, killer, soulful treatment that we’re offering up. Give this one a swing and you’ll say you’ve never heard of the Bald Baladeer!

Magic Carpet Ride (Steppenwolf) [HL]

Magic Carpet Ride’ was Steppenwolf’s second most successful Rock classic — only surpassed by ’68s ‘Born To Be Wild’. The cut was the lead single from their album ‘The Second’ and reached #3 on the US charts. Not only does the song feature the band’s characteristic, catchy Pop/Rock stylings but a far-out, Psychadelic solo section for your band to dig into!

Burning Love (Elvis Presley) [HL]

This groovy Gospel Rock number was a big feature for Elvis’ live shows, but none as memorable as that Hawaiian night in 1973. The Dennis Linde number (Hunka Hunka) ‘Burning Love’ is one of the most memorable cuts from the ‘Aloha From Hawaii’ concert. Now, 40 years later this bouny, fun Blues number is just as hip as it was back in Honlulu!

Can’t Stay Away From You (Gloria Estefan) [HL]

The third single from the 1988 multi-platinum album ‘Let It Loose’ is this gorgeous Latin-Pop Ballad from Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. The song became Estefan’s fifth Top 10 Hit in the US and ranked in the Top 10 in the UK and other countries worldwide. ‘Can’t Stay Away From You’ includes an original horn arrangement and is a great feature for your female vocalist.

Purple Rain (Prince) [HL]

In 1984 Prince and the Revolution debuted not only an album but a full motion picutre experience — none other than ‘Purple Rain’. That album and the title cut of the same name went on to earn Prince a Gold Record and become one of his signature numbers. Our chart for ‘Purple Rain’ follows Prince’s tradition of killer live re-arrangements of his classic numbers. We’ve taken the best bits of his live cuts and put them together into this power packed Rock Ballad opus!

Attitude Dance (Tower Of Power) [HL]

This fourth track on 1991’s ‘Monster On A Leash’ was a great taste of classic T.O.P. style. Featuring the powerful lead vocals of Tom Bowes, ‘Attitude Dance’ laid out how Tower Of Power has a funky good time. Written by founding members Emilio Castillo and ‘Doc’ Kupka the song has their signature killer horn lines all supported by Doc’s popping Bari. A must for horn bands!!

Time Will Tell (Tower Of Power) [HL]

The popular Ballad is a difficult art — and there aren’t many groups that can provide a moving, soulful ballad like Tower of Power. This 3/4 cut from their 1974 album ‘Back To Oakland’ features a lush string arrangement on top of T.O.P’s recognisable wall of horns. ‘Time Will Tell’ also includes a beautifully harmonized backing vocal section, but would be just as powerful as a feature for your Male or Female singer. (This song starts in Bm and modulates to G)

(I Got Everything I Need) Almost (Blues Brothers) [HL]

A classic Blues swinger from Don Walsh & The Downchild Blues Band — well known as a cover by the Blues Brothers! ‘I got everything i need almost, but I don’t have you, and you’re the thing I need the most ..’

Angel (from Follow That Dream) [HL]

Angel was a beautiful, Latin-influenced ballad sung by Elvis for the 1962 musical film ‘Follow That Dream’. The song, written by the hit-making duo of Sid Tepper and Roy Bennett has a great, lilting Cha-Cha feel and is perhaps the best known cut from the soundtrack save the title theme.
