Dean Martin had a #15 Billboard hit with this Latin sensation. The 1954 English version of ‘Quien Sera’ was a huge success for Martin and established ‘Sway’ as a Standard in both the Pop and Jazz idioms. The timeless tune was revisited by Michael Buble in 2004, but the classic Martin cut still remains one of the best-loved renditions of all time.

Livin On A Prayer (Bon Jovi) [HL]

This 1986 Hair Rock classic was the second single from Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Slippery When Wet’ album. Full of 80’s flare including rockin’ guitars and scintillating synths, the song rocketed to #1 on charts around the world. In 2006 the song was voted #1 in VH1’s 100 Greatest Hits of the 80s.

Paparazzi (Lady Gaga) [HL]

The last single from Lady Gaga’s 2008 album ‘The Fame’, ‘Paparazzi’ is Gaga’s dance hall poke at the ‘shutter set’. Although debuting at 74 on the Billboard 100 it quickly made up ground and topped out at #6 on the chart — Gaga’s fourth consecutive Top 10 single for 2009. The song has already spawned some loving tributes including a rollicking Swing rendition from Germany’s ‘The Baseballs’.

Could I Have This Dance (Anne Murray) [HL]

Anne Murray’s 1980 single ‘Could I Have This Dance’ is standard for any wedding or anniversary party. A beautiful Waltz about contented lovers; this song makes a perfect, intimate slow dance.

The Living Daylights (From The Living Daylights) (A-Ha) [HL]

This theme song to the 15th Bond installment was a perfect tribute to it’s times — the New Wave 80’s! The theme was co-written by Pal Waaktaar of the 80’s group ‘A-Ha’ and Bond score guru John Barry. The combo of the group’s pop stylings and Barry’s string and horn arrangements created an opening presentation that fit the mold of the new, modern Bond.

You hear a few notes and it can be no other but ‘MacArthur Park’. This classic 1968 song from writer Jimmy Webb was originally recorded by Richard Harris and has since seen many a loving redition. Love him or hate him, there is no other treatment like that of the Maynard Ferguson band.

Bennie & The Jets (Elton John) [HL]

Bennie & The Jets’ is Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s fictional tale of a superstar group that appeared on his 1973 masterpiece ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. It set a picture of a band that epitomized the glam and show of 1970s pop music: “She’s got electic boots, a mohair suit…”. The song is a classic example of John’s singature piano driven, Pop/Rock style and Taupin’s fun and illistrative lyric ability.

And I Love You So (Elvis Presley) [HL]

And I Love You So’ was one of many beautiful Don McLean numbers covered by the King, Elvis Presley. The song was originally recorded by McLean on his album ‘Tapestry’ and was also a hit for Perry Como in 1973. Elvis first recorded the number in 1975 for his album ‘Elvis Today’ and it became a regular attraction at his live shows thereafter. It is a moderate tempo ballad with haunting lyrics and a lush orchestration.
