Probably one of New Zealand’s most beloved Folk Songs — ‘Pokarekare Ana’ has it’s roots around the start of WWI. Reports say the song originated ‘in the North of Auckland’ and was popularized by Maori soldiers who were training near Auckland preparing for the Great War. Covered and translated by many artists, it has endured over time. We’re presenting it with a contemporary Pop/Country spin in it’s original (phonetic) Maori.
This Australian ‘anthem’ was originally written by Aussie legend Banjo Paterson in 1895. We’ve given it our signature PepperHorn ‘spicy’ flare with some cruisy Swing leading into a burning Rock ‘N Jumpin’ Jive finish. A great feature for your Tenor Saxophonist — Waltzing Matilda is sure to please all audiences — whether Down Under or abroad!
Getting In Da Blues’ is a practice tune that has been forumlated to allow both budding and experienced Improvisers the chance to work on their craft in a Band setting. Set in a bouncy, Chiacgo Blues style, this 12-Bar Blues tune features an opening Chorus and two Open Solo Choruses with Backgrounds. This allows your Band to all have a blow before taking the tune out. Perfect for Bands looking for a forum to take their Blowing chops to the shed!
As one of the most recognisable themes in Classical music, the ‘William Tell Overture’ has endured as a classic melody for almost 200 years. Rossinni’s theme was originally written as the opening to the Opera ‘William Tell’, but has it’s place in the hearts of many as the theme to TV’s the ‘Lone Ranger’ or as a comical number by Spike Jones and many other performers. This is a fun, but challenging piece that includes many advanced solo passages. Our arrangement is perfectly suited from Big Band down to the Sax and Clarinet Quartets. Give your self the challenge and get ‘off to the races’ with the William Tell Overture!
The first Band exercise from PepperHorn FUNdamentals — putting the FUN back in fundamentals! We’ve put together a slow, Bluesy Swing tune that focuses on Intonation, Swing Feel and Subdivision. I Shall Not Be Moved’ is a beloved Hymn that has kept a strong place in both Gospel circles and the Trad. Jazz tradition. Sometimes played as a dirge for funeral processions, this up-tempo, lighthearted version is much more suited to a dance hall or street parade.
This March number has unknown origins, but has been a Trad. Jazz staple for ages. Starting off with a bouncy, 2-Beat March things kick into high gear when the drummer leads you into a double time swing. March off to Gettysburg for a rollicking good time!
Here’s a tune for all you swing kids out there — The Big Apple Contest!. This one is Part I of II — this being the tune to go along with the dance of the same name. Switched on You-tubers may already know that this dance and song were featured in the film ‘Keep Punchin’, and has remained a group dance classic ever since. Its a fun swinger based on rhythm changes. Room for the Tenor Sax, Trumpet and Bone to step out and have a blow!
We’ve put our own spin on this Scott Joplin Ragtime favorite — the ‘Maple Leaf Rag’. It’s a seriously fun tune for both horns and rhythm and guaranteed to get toes tapping and dancers swinging! The Piano roll classic has been expanded to suit your ensemble size and we’ve passed the melody over to your horn section. The keys get a bit of a break from the usual ‘stride’ gymnastics in order to make this an approachable, playable and fun arrangement for all advanced bands.
